Muscular Structure Therapy CONTRAINDICATIONS

While generally considered safe, there are several contraindications where massage is unsafe, and some techniques practiced during MST treatment should be avoided or used with caution:

1.  **Acute Muscle Injuries**: MET can exacerbate injuries, especially if there's a tear or severe strain.

2.  **Joint Instability or Hypermobility**: Conditions such as ligamentous laxity or Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome can worsen with MET.

3.  **Severe Osteoporosis**: The pressure and force applied during MET can cause fractures in fragile bones.

4.  **Fractures or Dislocations**: These conditions require stabilization and healing before any manipulation.

5.  **Severe Acute Pain**: This could indicate an underlying issue that MET might aggravate.

6.  **Severe Rheumatoid Arthritis**: The inflammatory nature of this condition can make MET risky.

7.  **Infectious or Inflammatory Joint Disease**: Such as septic arthritis, where manual techniques could spread infection.

8.  **Malignancy in the Treatment Area**: Manipulation in the region of a tumor could potentially spread cancerous cells.

9.  **Recent Surgery**: Healing tissues and structures need time to recover, and MET could disrupt this process.

10.  **Vascular Disorders**: Conditions like deep vein thrombosis or severe atherosclerosis.

11.  **Severe Neurological Conditions**: Conditions like acute disc herniation with nerve compression symptoms, or severe spinal cord compression.

12.  **Cold and flue-like symptoms**

13.  **kidney or liver conditions**

14.  **Contagious Disease**

15.  **Uncontrolled blood pressure**

16.  **Blood Clot**

17.  **Cancer**:  If you have received chemotherapy or radiation therapy in the last 6 months, or had lymph nodes removed in the past 12 months, a doctor's note is necessary prior to massage.

18.  **Heart conditions**:  Certain heart conditions are not appropriate for massage, such as heart failure when the heart is not pumping effectively.  A doctor's note is needed if there have been recent heart attacks, heart surgery, or irregular heartbeats.

19.  **Under any dehydration symptoms**.  It can result in headaches and nausea.

20.  **Under the influence of alcohol or drugs**.  Alcohol and drugs can impair your judgment and make it harder to give your massage therapist adequate feedback, in addition to dehydrating your body.

Always consult a healthcare professional to evaluate whether massage is appropriate for a specific condition or patient.
