Prenatal Massage

Prenatal Myofascial Balance

Pregnancy brings incredible changes to the body, often accompanied by muscle tension, postural shifts, and discomfort.  Our approach to prenatal massage integrates gentle, hands-on myofascial therapy to help ease these challenges by releasing restrictions in the fascia—the connective tissue surrounding muscles.  This technique encourages mobility, reduces pain, and supports overall well-being throughout pregnancy.

While massage is generally safe after the first trimester, every pregnancy is unique.  Some women may experience nausea or dizziness in the early stages, and certain deep or vigorous techniques should be avoided.  Our focus is always on safety, comfort, and individualized care. We encourage our clients to consult with your healthcare provider before booking to ensure this therapy aligns with your specific needs.

Prenatal Massage Contraindications

Prenatal massage can offer numerous benefits during pregnancy, but certain conditions may require caution or avoidance.  Common contraindications include:

High-Risk Pregnancy: Conditions like pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, or a history of pre-term labor may require modifications or postponement of massage.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Blood clots necessitate postponing massage to avoid complications.

Placental Issues: Conditions such as placenta previa, accreta, or abruption should be discussed with a physician before massage.

Severe Swelling or Edema: Excessive swelling, especially in the face or hands, may indicate pre-eclampsia and requires medical evaluation.

Abdominal Massage: Deep abdominal massage is avoided during pregnancy to prevent complications.

Heart Conditions: Certain heart conditions may require adjustments to massage techniques, especially in the third trimester.

Recent Postpartum Period: Massage is typically avoided immediately after childbirth until the body has had time to recover.

Always inform your therapist about your pregnancy and any medical conditions to ensure a safe and beneficial experience.
